Who are we?

SAMA collection, est. 2012, boasts over 300 street art works varying from small pieces to monumental murals. Today our team’s main focus is on new heritage.

Street Art Museum Amsterdam (SAMA) is a community museum and living lab based in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, working at the intersection of street art, cultural heritage, participation and digital innovation.

Through co-creation with residents, artists, researchers and public partners, SAMA documents, preserves and activates urban culture in public space. Our work combines participatory heritage practices, community storytelling and digital tools to explore new ways of creating, sharing and experiencing heritage.

Current initiatives include digital preservation of street art, community archiving, non-formal education and citizen-led approaches to cultural knowledge production.

We develop participatory and digital approaches to documenting, preserving and activating living urban heritage through street art, community engagement and public space innovation.
